Weeds, pasta-making and Moonshine Ramblers


HALIFAX — The Dandelion Festival started on the weekend. According to the event website, it celebrates the “original home-grown, DIY, local, non-corporate, uncultivated anarchist of the plant world.”

Families should note Saturday’s “Extravaganza” at the George Dixon Centre, featuring kid’s games, live music and a potluck. Thanks to organizers who sent over the schedule printed below.

SCHEDULE FOR MAY 5 – 8
Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.
Pasta making and cooking with Moonfire Organic Farm (at Union Mission Kitchen, 2107 Brunswick St.)

Thursday, 6 p.m.
Edible weed walk with Jen Stotland (starting at George Dixon horseshoe courts, 2501 Gottingen St.)

Friday, 6 p.m.
Fermentation workshop. Mead and ginger beer with Jocelyne and Natalia (at the Grainery, 2385 Agricola St.)

Saturday, 3:30-8 p.m.
Dandelion Festival Celebration (at George Dixon Centre). Features a potluck with dandelion foods; information tables; children’s games; live music and entertainment; Moonshine Ramblers at 7 p.m.; and an open mic for poetry, music and stories. Free admission. Donations appreciated.
